The purpose of the Victorian Farmers' Markets Association (VFMA) is to support and promote authentic farmers' markets throughout Victoria. It is the peak body for farmers’ markets in Victoria, representing its members on regulatory issues affecting the industry.
The Association works to offer a range of benefits to members, undertakes a range of funded projects including market research, accreditation, industry events such as the 2009 conference, stallholder and market development and promotions at key events.
The VFMA also manages the Melbourne Showgrounds Farmers’ Market – a weekly market offering new stallholders a “testing ground” and training for market managers.
The VFMA has recently reviewed and made changes to the association's membership structure. A formal vote at a Special Meeting of the association on Monday 9 August 2010 passed the new membership structure proposed for market managers and stallholders.
Effective from 1 September 2010, the new structure sees market managers forwarding a market day levy to the VFMA following each market day based on the following fee structure: $5 per stallholder in metropolitan markets, $4 interface and $3 regional. In many cases, this will be collected from stallholders along with site fees.
Other annual membership categories will include:
Industry professional (consultant, contractor, academic, employees in the industry)
Market management committee member
Market volunteer
Prospective market manager/industry professional
Stallholder not attending member markets
Prospective stallholder
Business partner
