Wellbush Vineyard is a tiny family owned vineyard 15kms north east of Bendigo. We believe that good wine comes from good grapes therefore our aim is to grow the best fruit possible.
Approximately 1.5 hectares are under vine. Our two main varieties are Shiraz and Chardonnay, with smaller plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Our annual production is between 400 and 700 cases.
At Wellbush Vineyard we hand tend our vines as much as possible. Machinery is used minimally. We make our own compost, produce our own worm castings and use cold pressed seaweed extract to feed our earth and vines. Vines are hand pruned and fruit is hand picked.
Our wine is produced with minimal intervention thereby reducing additives.
Wellbush Vineyard has been recognised with several awards. In 2010 the Australian Sommelier of the Year and producer of the Wine List of the Year (Taxi Dining Room), Lincoln Riley, chose The Wellbush 2006 Shiraz for inclusion in the Bendigo Longest Lunch. The Wellbush 2009 Shiraz scored 16 points out of a possible 20 in The Visy 2010 Great Australian Shiraz Challenge, outscoring many renown, more expensive brands.
Our modest tasting and sales Cellar Door is open on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm and during the week by appointment.
You can find us at the Bendigo Community Farmers Market on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 9am to 1pm.
